Came here for a weekend away. Inn was great. Lovely, clean, cozy, quiet room. The staff for the restaurant serves as the inn staff as well, and while I was at first confused about who I should go to with any inn-related questions... I really didn't have any questions because everything was so thoroughly prepared and ready for us! Housekeeper even stopped us on our way out for a hike, and gave us priceless recommendations on the area trails. Loved the jazz, and the bar and restaurant staff [particularly Jenna and Jim] make you feel like a beloved local who wandered in for your regular drink and meal. Dinner was good, but breakfast was even better.

This was hands down the best place I have stayed in America. My husband keeps talking about it all the time. We have stayed here for only 1 night on the way to NY from Rochester but it was an amzing find!!!! We haven't had anything booked and I found this place on yelp while driving. Everything about it was amazing. From the roads to this litttle town to the decor and atmosphere of the INN. It is very charming and has lots of character. And the jazz night was just brilliant!!! If we ever go to this part of US again, we will definitely come back!!!

Id def come here again if i visit the area again!

I dragged myself out of the house for my 1st visit since moving to the area years ago. I'm sorry I waited. Can I buy it? I like it that much.

First I want to rebuke "alisa d" for her review of the inn. We were staying there the night the water went off, down the street construction workers unexpectedly broke a water pipe causing the surrounding area to lose water. This was unexpected and as a matter of hygiene they could ny serve food with no working water In the face if this they actually comped our room, provided us with unlimited bottles water and Gallon jug, and the bar tender spent te to make a detailed list of surrounding restaurants. We actually overheard alisa d talking about how she left a bad review, but wait, didn't the bartender take the time to tell you to go to that restaurant !? For the guy who has a problem the the condition/price of the place, I think the charm of it is that it's suspended in time. While there is active improvement projects, I would say don't stay in a century old house f you are looking for the ritz Carlton. And please note that many jazz clubs with notable artists charge a cover so that they can afford to have higher caliber artists. We plan on going back anther time because the staff are good, honest people. And we had a nice time around town by their recommendations.

The music was great! Food and accommodations, not so much. We enjoyed our visit but not sure that I'd go back.

Don't know about the Hotel but if you go there for Breakfast order lunch because that's about the time you will get it. Food is OK but the service coming out of the kitchen is ridiculous.

The service was really really slow. Mimosa tastes like orange juice with water. The waitress voluntarily took care of our meal and only charged the coffee and mimosa because she felt sorry that it took so long to serve our food. I'd still recommend food here for people come up to the mountain for skiing.

I stayed here for two nights, and I can confirm what I saw in many in the reviews. Namely: the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is tasty and ample. However, I found the rates to be very overpriced for the service and general upkeep of the facility. I can appreciate that a lot of your clientele come from NYC, but that doesn't mean you automatically get to charge NYC prices. And if you do charge NYC prices, then you should strive for NYC standards. The building is dilapidated, with peeling paint on every surface you can see (both outside and inside the walls were dingy and dirty, the heaters had more rust and paint-flakes/chips that an actual coats of paint, the patio furniture was too dirty to sit on, and the patio ashtrays overflowed without being empty for my entire stay - YUCK!) I had to dodge around the dirty linen that lined the stairwell while the staff cleaned the rooms, with the only effort made by the owner (I'm pretty sure it was the owner) being to push the linen aside by a couple of inches...enough room my a footpath...without any verbal acknowledgement of how gross it is to have to dodge other people's dirty sheets. (Oh...and speaking of housekeeping, you should advise them that leaving an envelope with a note for a tip is SUPER TACKY!!!) I didn't have an opportunity to eat dinner or listen to the jazz music, as I had other plans in the evenings, though I will say that I find it declasse to charge a cover for your guests. Breakfast was good. The waitress was attentive. Oh...and the wifi works in the rooms. If you're willing to spend the sort of money they are charging, you would do much better to check out properties in the surrounding towns.

Great Thursday night jazz. But....we planned a vacay around it & tried to reserve a room. Bob didn't get back to me for 24 hours, so we booked a place nearby, but tried to have dinner & enjoy the entertainment anyway. Good thing we didn't stay there, the water lines broke & they kicked everyone out. Mgmt was smug & uncaring. Ok place if you're local, but don't spend the night. It's falling apart.

Fabulous, Fantastic, Fun! under new management Review for Food Only: Wow, the food is great. The music last night was incredible. I had the veggie burger, it is unlike any other veggie burger I've had. The waitress said they're trying out a new v.burger, a pea-based one. Usually I shy away from pea-based v.burgers but this one was out of this world. It was served on a soft flatbread and split in half, perfect for sharing. The porch outside is a great hang with plenty of seats and tables. The interior is comfortable with great sight-lines to the stage. The bar is beautiful and big. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We met a bunch of guys walking the Appalachian Trail and staying at the hostel across the street in the church. Three started in Georgia and one in Tennessee. None of them knew each other before. What a fun hang meeting interesting people walking the Trail. I'll be back!

This place was awesome! My bf and I used yelp to find it. After feeling restless and wanting to get away for the weekend we headed out towards bushkill falls area and figured we would find somewhere on the way and we stumbled over this jewel. At first site it looked old and worn, but the reviews were good and everywhere else was sold out so we said "sure why not"! We walked into a nice bar dining area and inquired about the rooms. They had a king bed available upstairs and offered us the Jazz Package for around $200. Included the room for one night, credit towards dinner and towards breakfast the next morning and free admission to the jazz night. The room/bathroom was very nice for how old this place is and the AC worked great for middle of summer. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. We ditched our stuff in the room and headed downstairs for dinner and a jazz show. Both my bf and I are not really into Jazz but the show was great and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The food was OMG delicious! Tasted fresh from scratch and was so flavorful. We enjoyed drinks and made our way upstairs. We slept til 11am the next morn (we usually get up early) because of being so relaxed and comfortable. The breakfast was AMAZING. Eggs Benedict made with fresh blue crab instead of ham. Was out of this world. The wait staff was very nice. We love this place and talk about returning often.

We went to the Dear Head Inn May 17th for a weekend away for my boyfriend's birthday. He really enjoyed the jazz music and the atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly. I forget her name but she later told me that she helped come up with the dish I ordered (A flatbread pesto sandwich with chicken). It was amazing!!! Later she recommended a dessert that my boyfriend and I fought over. Great place, amazing food, blew my mind!!! If I'm in the Poconos again I will be back.

If you still believe in small-town American values or Americana in general please stay here! We booked this blindly on the internet for Valentine's Day 2010 and here is how it went down: We pulled up to the Deerhead Inn and were unsure of what to think. There was no "official" entrance so we pushed open the dining room door and found the staff setting up for the night's show and they greeted us with a smile. We were told that the jazz show would begin at eight than led to our room. It was immaculate and loaded with charming antiques. The bathroom was brand-new as well. We took off to the slopes and the place was empty. When we got back the bar was loaded with tons of great people (intellectual types) and an amazing jazz band was rocking so hard it blew my sophisticated downtown intellectual self away. Furthermore, the food was unbelievable! Keep in mind this place is family-ish run. Very small staff working a huge crowd. They can be slow at times, but its so worth it. I highly suggest staying here, but keeping an open mind and letting your guard down. Forget chains and television for a weekend and enjoy life. Stay here. It is a landmark.

There is no place like the Deer Head! The music is always first rate and often cutting-edge. The restaurant is very unpretentions and welcoming. The food sticks to your ribs. Try the mushroom soup as a starter! The best part for me is that as the evening progresses, everyone feels the love, and by the time you leave, nobody is a stranger. We like to sit at the bar for maximum effect. Be aware that this is a true jazz club, and while the performers are playing, conversation should be subdued, but I've never yet seen this be a problem, since the customers are generally jazz lovers, and there is a very reasonable cover charge on nights when there are performances.

Took my boyfriend here as part of a surprise birthday weekend getaway in the Poconos. I found out about it online and thought "hmm....jazz bed and breakfast in the Poconos? Could be fun." I was incredibly pleasantly surprised! First of all, I got the Queen room jazz package, which includes the room, 4 hours of live jazz, and dinner. The room was clean and had lovely antique furniture. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was totally modern. Had great water pressure and great hot water! The food was incredible. I had the crab stuffed flounder, which was served over a bed of perfectly cooked risotto and I ate every bite! My boyfriend had the strip steak, which was HUGE, and perfectly cooked. Then dessert was spectacular. The creme brule alone is worth the drive from Jersey City! And the wait staff was friendly and attentive. And the jazz was incredible. I know it's different every weekend (a reason to go back over and over!) but we saw pianist Eric Doney and violinist Zach Brock. They were amazing! They did wonderful arrangements of new and old favorites and performed brilliant original compositions! The Steinway piano had great sound and there wasn't a "bad" table in the house for hearing the music. The inn is snuggled into historic downtown Delaware Water Gap, only a few short blocks from the trolley (also recommended!), mini-golf, a cute bakery, and antique shops. Highly recommended!!!

Let me start by saying that we have been to the Deer Head Inn before. We stayed in a suite and had dinner in the restaurant last fall. We had the pleasure of seeing Bob Dorough perform. As our anniversary is this week, we were excited to learn that he was playing again so we rented a car (we live in Brooklyn) and emailed and called in advance to secure dinner and show reservations. Upon arrival the hostess (maybe owner?) was very short when she greeted us and sat us at a tiny bar table with an obstructed view of the stage. My boyfriend asked if we could have a table to see the show as we were having dinner, or even if we could sit at the bar facing the stage. She was extremely offended by this and said we would need to give her a minute. She proceeded to seat people walking in without reservations AFTER we arrived in prime tables. We were finally moved, however, she was not happy about it and complained that I did not bring my menu with me. My boyfriend got up and went back to the bar and picked our menus just to avoid conflict. Luckily, we had an excellent waitress, Kim, who made our night enjoyable. We realized that it is definitely a place that treats locals as family. Sad that we couldn't have been treated a bit better as we love to frequent places such as this who still appreciate the jazz classics. The music, as always was the reason to go. We won't be going back. We were made to feel out of place and unwelcome.

went here with my wife for first time and it was wonderful. the restuarant has 2 rooms - one room has a nice mountain/country feel while the other room has a lovely victorian feel with the red paint and white moldings is beautiful - and either room you can still see the band. the bar area is nice also. music was upbeat and really great. the food was also delicious. for appetizer the brie cheese was nice as well as the french onion soup. for dinner my wife had stuffed flounder which was excellent and better then most places down the shore. i had the ny strip steak which was juicy and tasty. the creme brulee was excellent as well. the feeling in this place because of the decor along with the candles on all the tables and just the way it all looks inside is something to experience and we will be going back more often.

What happens when you mix a measure of customer indifference with a dash of managerial inexperience and finish it off with a dollop of arrogance? Voila! You have the Deerhead Inn's personal recipe in bad taste! My husband and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day 2008 at the Deerhead Inn. Our "perfect" evening began in the bar with the bartender/owner taking my husband's order of a glass of wine. Instead of first pouring the wine, the owner left the bar for almost 20 min. while he checked several guests into the Inn. When he finally returned, we were seated at a table in the back of the room with a partial view of the stage. The musicians were loud enough to make ordering our dinners a challenge, but we managed to communicate with our waitress anyway. During an interminable wait for our dinners, the owner/bartender approached us and asked us not to talk while the musicians were playing. As we looked around the room, filled with other diners,we were astonished and offended by his request. The venue was not a concert hall by any means, and conversation was ongoing throughout the room. The owner/bartender must have realized how ridiculous his request was, for he returned to our table a second time and told us "not to worry about it." After 90 minutes our dinners had still not arrived and we both felt that our evening had been ruined. The owner/bartender offered no apology for our shabby treatment and we left the restaurant . Our experience at the Deerhead Inn was appalling. We hope that other unsuspecting diners will be spared our aggravation.

This was our first visit to Deer Head Inn. We stayed in one of the King rooms and enjoyed dinner and Jazz in the restaurant on the first floor. At check in the owner could not have been more gracious and helpful but you immediately need to slow down and relax through the process (isn't that one of the goals of a get away weekend anyway?) Our room was on the tops floor which gave us a lovely view and reduced some of the street noise (the Inn is directly on 611). It was recently redone and was in beautiful condition as was the bathroom. Dinner was very tasty. It was one of the best veggie burgers I have ever had and my salad with Parmesan crisps was also top notch. My husband's Beef Wellington was good. The bar menu was good and very reasonable. The jazz was superior. When you make reservations for dinner or the show they will "book" your seats in the restaurant so you do not have to worry about where you are sitting or if people will try to take your seat. Your seat is yours for the night. You can eat else where or go to your room for a while and your seat will still be there. - low stress!! The people were super nice and it was a very low stress relaxing experience. We will definitively be going back..
